Dorota Stroińska

was born in 1965 in Poznań, and has lived in Berlin since 1986 as a translator of German literature into Polish (including Karl Jaspers, Rüdiger Safranski, Lutz Seiler, Christian Kracht, Sibylle Lewitscharoff, Ilse Aichinger, Nora Gomringer, Anja Kampmann, Orsolya Kalász, Birgit Kreipe and Monika Rinck), but also of Polish literature into German (including the architecture book for children Treppe Fenster Klo, the children’s book Der Elefant auf dem Mond and Wojciech Kuczok’sDreckskerl (together with Gabriele Leupold). She was awarded the Translators’ Prize of the Polish Translators’ Association and nominated for the Central European Literature Prize ANGELUS. She founded the German-Polish Translators’ Sztamtysz, researched in the Karl Dedecius Archive, conducts translator seminars and teaches as a guest lecturer at universities. She is regularly active as a juror, literary mediator, moderator and curator of translationale berlin, among others, which she co-founded. She also brings the subject of literary translation and multilingualism into schools. Publications as an author include contributions to the journals SINN UND FORM and OSTEUROPA.
