Marieke Heimburger
has been translating mainly prose and literary non-fiction from English since 1998 (most recently Maya Angelou and Katherine May, among others) and occasionally thrillers from Danish (Jussi Adler-Olsen, among others). She has been active in the VdÜ for just as long and campaigns for better income conditions for literary translators in Germany. Her lawsuit for contract adjustments after the 2002 copyright law reform led to the decisive BGH ruling in 2009. She was a member of the VdÜ’s fee commission from 2013 to 2017, treasurer on the VdÜ board from 2017 to 2021 and has been the first chairperson of the professional association since 2021. As an author, she has written journalistic works as well as non-fiction books.
