Jess Oliveira
is a translator, researcher, and poet, currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Literature and Culture at the Federal University of Bahia. She holds a B.A. in German and Portuguese, as well as a Master’s degree in Translation Studies. In 2020, she achieved recognition as a finalist for the Jabuti Award in the Translation category. Her dedication is centred around the translation of Black Thought across various Diasporas. Notable authors she has translated include Denise Ferreira da Silva, Dionne Brand, Lelia Gonzalez, Grada Kilomba, May Ayim, and Christina Sharpe. Jess is an integral part of the cocoruto translation-art duo, a platform dedicated to experimental translation approaches.
