Alexander Sitzmann
born in Stuttgart in 1974, studied Scandinavian and Slavic studies in Vienna and researches and teaches at the university there. Since 1999 he has worked as a literary translator from Bulgarian, Macedonian and the Scandinavian languages. In 2004 he received the Honorary Award of the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture, 2007-2015 as well as 2018-2022 the annual Translator’s Award of the Federal Ministry. He was nominated for the Brücke Berlin Prize 2012 and 2014 and for the International Literature Prize of the House of World Cultures Berlin 2014 (both shortlisted). In 2016 he received the Austrian State Prize for Literary Translation, in 2020 the Brücke Berlin Theatre Prize, and in 2020-21 he was Translator in Residence Zug (Landis & Gyr Foundation).
