Asmus Trautsch was born in Kiel. He is a philosopher and author living in Berlin. After studying philosophy, German literature, and composition/music theory, he received his PhD in philosophy from Humboldt University in Berlin and taught at several universities in Germany and the United States. He publishes philosophical texts, essays, poetry, and translations. He directs the Academy for Poetry Criticism (Akademie für Lyrikkritik) at the Haus für Poesie and in 2021, curated the interdisciplinary “Festival of Collaborations with Alexander Kluge and Friends” at the Literaturhaus Berlin. Most recently: Der Umschlag von allem in nichts. Eine Theorie Tragischer Erfahrung (2020) and his second poetry collection, Caird (2021).

Nora Bierich, born in Berlin in 1958, studied philosophy and Japanese Studies in Berlin and Tôkyô and has translated postwar Japanese literature and nonfiction in philosophy and art for nearly 30 years. Her authors include Kenzaburô Ôe, Yukio Mishima, Haruki Murakami, Keiichirô Hirano, as well as the philosopher Kôjin Karatani and manga authors Yoshiharu Tsuge and Shigeru Mizuki. In 2008, she was awarded the Japan Foundation Translator’s Prize and in 2019, the prestigious Noma-Honyakushô, together with Ursula Gräfe. As chairwoman of the Weltlesebühne, she organizes and participates in various translation events and is also involved in the further training of young translators.

Aurélie Maurin has lived in Berlin since 2000, where she works as a curator, literary translator, and editor. Since 2017, she has led the TOLEDO programme of the German Translator Fund, for which she initiated the series Journals, Cities of Translators, Toledo Talks, and the poetry translators’ meeting JUNIVERS. In 2021, together with Ulf Stolterfoht, she adopted the artistic direction of the Lyrikertreffen in Münster. She regularly leads translation workshops (such as for the CNL Lausanne), represented the Coalition of the Free Scene of Literature Berlin, and served as a jury member for the Berlin Senate’s literary fellowships and City-Tax cultural funds. Dorota Stroińska, born in 1965 in Poznań, has lived in Berlin since 1986 as a translator of mainly German-language literature into Polish (including Karl Jaspers, Rüdiger Safranski, Lutz Seiler, Christian Kracht, Sibylle Lewitscharoff, and Ilse Aichinger). Awarded the Translators’ Prize of the Polish Translators’ Association, nominated for the Central European Literature Prize ANGELUS. She founded the German-Polish Translators-Sztamtysz, researched in the Karl Dedecius Archive, leads translators’ seminars (ViceVersa, the training program KRANICHE/ŻURAWIE) and teaches as a university guest lecturer. She is regularly active as a juror, literary mediator, moderator, and curator of translationale berlin, among others, which she co-founded. Publications as an author include SINN UND FORM and OSTEUROPA.

In addition to her organizational work, Annina Lehmann works as a curator, author, and filmmaker. She grew up in Berlin, Tripoli, Kassel, and London, studied philosophy, politics, and economics at Oxford and literature in London. She is currently pursuing a PhD with film director Joshua Oppenheimer at the University of Westminster with an artistic/scholarly project on the experience of time among people displaced by war in Georgia. In 2021, she co-curated the interdisciplinary “Festival of Collaborations with Alexander Kluge & friends” at the Literaturhaus Berlin.

Tatjana Kirchner founded the Berlin-based agency Kirchner Kommunikation GmbH in 2003, which specializes in media relations for book publishers and cultural institutions. Prior to that, she completed a degree in humanities and worked in press offices at various book publishers for nine years.

Joscha Hekele moved from Hamburg to Frankfurt in 2016, where he now works for Litprom e.V., a nonprofit association dedicated to promoting and publicizing non-European literature in German-language countries. Previously, he worked for an office supplies wholesaler in Hamburg. He studied economics and Southeast Asian studies at the University of Hamburg, focusing on sustainable economic development and development economics. At Litprom, he mostly takes care of the finances and supervises other projects. On the side, takes care of the financial management of other projects, such as translationale berlin.

The Collegium Hungaricum
The Collegium Hungaricum Berlin (CHB) is an interdisciplinary space for literature, art, and science. It has promoted cultural and scientific exchange between Hungary and Germany since 1924 and has been the venue of translationale berlin since 2021. The CHB is part of a worldwide network of Hungarian cultural institutes and is a founding member of EUNIC Berlin.
The Institute dedicates a special emphasis in its literary program to the topic of translation in order to promote networking between the two countries’ literary translation scenes and polyphonic international cultural exchange, as well as to grant translators greater visibility as mediators of literature and culture.
