Thomas Brückner
was born in Görlitz. He studied African studies, cultural studies and literature in Leipzig and gained his habilitation in 1990, followed by guest professorships in Germany and Sweden. Since 1994, he has worked as a literary translator and editor, including German translations of Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o (Kenya), Ivan Vladislavić (South Africa), Kojo Laing (Ghana) and others, including works by the 2021 Nobel Prize winner for literature Abdulrazak Gurnah. He is also a speaker and dramaturge in various poetry-jazz programmes (Heine, Rühmkorf, Lessing, Grass and others) with musicians such as drummer Günter Baby Sommer, guitarist Uwe Kropinski , trombonist Johannes Bauer and trombonist and trumpeter Michael Winkler .
